West Midland Regional League

Shawbury United FC v Tividale FC

Saturday 26th January 2019

Kick off at 3.00pm

After last weeks defeat. Tividale will be looking to bounce back this weekend. The lad’s know that they were nowhere near good enough against Haughmond and will hopefully have put that behind them.

One bit of good news that come out of last week was that Black Country Rangers’s defeat meant that we only lost one point to the chasing pack.

Shawbury host us on the back of two decent draws, away at AFC Bridgnorth and at home to Black Country Rangers in the league. This ended a run of 5 straight defeats that has seen them get dragged into the relegation battle.

We have had a few battles with Shawbury over the recent years. This is the reverse league fixture as the team met at The Beeches in September. A game that Tividale ran out 6-0 winners Demetri Brown 2, Dan Smith 2, Darragh Bustin and Tyree Clarke with the goals.

Before that we met in the Midland Football League in the 2016/2017 season, the year that we were relegated. Honours were shared that season with us winning at The Beeches, goals from Matt Hunt and Nathan Jones giving us a comeback win after Shawbury had led at half time through a Jacob Wedderburn own goal.  The reverse fixture at their old Wem Town ground resulted in a 2-0 win to Shawbury, Josh Thomas and Stuart Ellis the goal scorers that day.

In the 2014/2015 season we met in the FA Cup Preliminary Round. It was a 3-3 draw in a cracker in Wem. Stuart Ellis opened the scoring for Shawbury and Jaz Luckie equalised before half time. Tividale’s Richard Huckfield made it 2-1. Luckie then scored his second to put the visitors 3-1 up.  But Kevin Renshaw and Tom Rogers goals in the last 11 minutes earned Shawbury a replay.

In the replay Tividale ran out 5-2 winners at The Beeches, but it was Shawbury who went ahead after just a couple of minutes through Steve Hole (where have I heard that name lately). But Karl Edwards equalised and then put Tividale ahead with 2 goals before half time. Luckie made it 3-1 early into the 2nd half before Darren Beech made it 3-2.  Tividale sub Nigel Penny came on to make it 4-2 and Edwards finished the scoring with his hat trick and Tividale’s 5th.
