GOALKEEPING Coach Chris Walwyn has praised Charlie Price ahead of Tividale’s game with Gresley this weekend.

Walwyn, known by his colleagues as ‘Billy’, has been impressed with the development of Price over the course of this season.

“Charlie had to be patient when he first joined the club.

“But he worked extremely hard at the back end of last season and through the summer to ensure he was given the jersey at the start of this season.”

The former Lye Town ‘keeper has already made 24 appearances for ‘Dale so far this campaign and Walwyn believes consistency has been the key to his form.

“Charlie is getting better and better and a consistent run in the team is probably the natural reason for that.

“He’s still only 20 years old and will grow as a Goalkeeper if he continues to show the attitude he has done since joining the club in 2013.”

Walwyn also praised the efforts of Jack Hayfield and says the competition between the two of them is healthy.

“Jack is a great lad.

“Again, at 23, he’s still very young from a goalkeeping perspective and he’s pushing Charlie extremely hard.

“I thought Jack did well last week when he started against Sutton in the Walsall Senior Cup, particularly one neat save low down to his right just before half-time.

“The pair of them are a pleasure to work with and they are good friends away from the football pitch, too.”
