LEIGH Downing wants more goals to his name between now and the end of the season after scoring both goals in Saturday’s victory over Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Former Chasetown forward Downing, 26, revealed that boss Ian Long has asked him to be more prolific and was pleased with his overall performance against their Yorkshire counterparts.

“It was a good win, and it was nice to get the two goals that claimed the three points for us.

“The manager has spoken with me recently and asked for more goals – I hope this is the response he was looking for. I’ve been performing well in general but haven’t scored as many as I’d ideally like.

“Generally, if I score one, then another few come along very quickly and that’s what I’m looking for now. Great credit to Ryan Winwood for his part in the second goal – he did very well for us after coming on from the bench.

“We’ve a very difficult game at Mickleover tomorrow night but we’re going into the game full of confidence after the win on Saturday.”
