MANAGER Ian Long is looking for an immediate improvement of performance levels from his Tividale players tomorrow afternoon when they entertain Stocksbridge Park Steels at The Beeches (KO 15:00).
The former Tipton Town boss was critical of his players after the victory against bottom of the table Brigg Town and the 39 year old wants his team to play at a much higher intensity than witnessed last weekend for long periods.
“I’m looking for a much improved performance because I was extremely disappointed with many aspects of our game last weekend, despite winning 2-0.
“We emphasised to the players before the game and at half-time that we wanted the ball moved around the pitch quickly and, collectively, they didn’t really deliver that aside from the first 20 minutes.
“We’ve trained hard this week but both myself and the coaching staff have made the players aware just how important our training sessions are. If they’re not training well, then their positions in the starting eleven will be under scrutiny.”
And Long is expecting a tough test from their Yorkshire counterparts, who currently lie 18th in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League, Division One South table.
“Stocksbridge played well against us at their place back in October, particularly in the first half with Charlie making one or two very good saves to keep the game at 1-1 before we came out second half and responded to claim a point on the day.
“It would be a very good platform for us to win the game with a solid performance tomorrow because we need confidence levels to be as high as possible before we make the very difficult trip to Mickleover Sports on Tuesday night.”
