IAN Long wants his Tivi players to respond from Saturday’s season ending defeat against Market Drayton Town by claiming a place in the JW Hunt Cup Final by beating Alvechurch tonight (KO 19:30).

The tie is being played at The Castlecroft Stadium, home of Midland Football League outfit AFC Wulfrunians, and Dale are looking to retain the trophy having beaten Sporting Khalsa at Molineux in the Final 12 months ago.

Long, 39, was upset with his players in their final Evo-Stik Northern Premier League, Division One South fixture with The Gingerbread Men at the weekend and wants them to claim some silverware to round off what he claims to have been a very successful season.

He said “I would suggest the JW Hunt Cup was never our priority at the start of the season, and survival in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League was at the forefront of our minds.

“Having said that, we’re the holders, we’ve taken the competition seriously and it’s a Charity Cup, too, which makes it even more special.

“We’ve had a great season, and there’s been terrific improvements made both on and off the pitch in terms of our performance.

“It would be nice to end the season by retaining the trophy.”
