PHIL Male wants to see a response from the Tividale players in tomorrow afternoon’s EVO-STIK Northern Premier League, First Division South fixture with Belper Town at The Beeches (KO 15:00).

Tivi were defeated 4-0 at the hands of Lincoln United in a dismal display last weekend and Male admits that Dale need to start picking up points, starting with tomorrow’s game against their Derbyshire counterparts.

“We need to show a response, and we need to get the confidence levels back up. We haven’t won for a few weeks now but we have a good opportunity tomorrow afternoon to put that right,” he said.

“There weren’t any positives to take from last Saturday but take nothing away from Lincoln – I thought they played some terrific football and were at it from the word go. Ball retention wise, they were the best side we’ve played so far this season.

“Belper are a good side, they were playing Step 3 football last season and have good players. We will need to be at our best to win the game but we’re playing at home and we need to work the opposition goalkeeper more than we have done in the past few weeks.”

Male is hoping to have a string of players back available ahead of tomorrow’s clash and said changes will be made from the side that lost in Lincolnshire last weekend.

“It was a patched up side last weekend in many respects. That’s doesn’t legislate for the performance, I admit, but we did have very limited options available to us.

“We had Milli (Craig Milligan), Jesse Race and Ashley Jackson all missing. Martin Hill was due to be involved but wasn’t available on the day due to reasons outside of his control. They’ve all been important players for us so far this season.”
