Wolverhampton Sporting 2-3 Tividale

Wellington ‘ammered’ in second half blitz

After last weeks heroics and Tividale’s habit of following a great performance with a not so good one. This game against the bottom of the league could have been put in the class of the ultimate banana skin and after 45 minutes it was going to the very script that the visitors feared.

The first half was just a constant stream of Tividale chances either saved by Ams debutant keeper Benjamin Czerepaninec, cleared by a resolute Ams defence or were just off target. Tividale have had some tough days over the last two seasons and have been thankful to some great performances from our keepers, but Czerepaninec’s first half performance can only be described as inspired.

There were so many saves from the home keeper, in fact to many to put in this report but the best were a point blank save to deny Dan Smith in the first 90 seconds. He then somehow got down to half block a Chris Bladen shot and then watched it come back off the post and back into his hands. He then flung himself full length to turn a Joe Lawleys free kick around the post and he topped the lot by somehow appearing from nowhere to save a Elliott Hartley shot that had goal written all over it.

As good as Czerepaninec was, Tividale on the other hand had to have a good look at themselves because even with those great saves they had a multitude of chances where a little more composure when clear on goal would have surely been beneficial. But the facts were despite the possession and the chances they did not score in that first half.

Half-time: Wellington Amateurs 0-0 Tividale

There’s an old sport saying that once you get one, more will come and this was one of those occasions that the longer you go without getting that one, the more anxious you get. Well Tividale soon put everyone’s mind at rest.

With only 6 minutes gone into the second half Bladen forced another save out of Czerepaninec but this time the keeper could only push the ball into the path of Hartley who slammed the ball into an empty net. Two minutes later on 53 minutes and it was 2-0. This time Hartley returned the favour when crossing from the by-line and Bladen was on the end of it to fire home.

Tividale were now looking like scoring off every attack and on their next they did. 56th minute and Lawley picked the ball up on the edge of the box and left Czerepaninec leaden footed with a spectacular drive into the bottom corner. Bladen netted his second and Tividale’s 4th on 67 minutes when Czerepaninec saved a Gardner header but Bladen was on the spot to turn the ball home at the 2nd attempt after the keeper had blocked his first shot.

Tividale made it 5-0 when Curtis Cocking back after a three match suspension got up to glance home a Hartley free kick on 74 minutes. On 77 minutes substitute Nathan Jones possibly forced the first error out of Czerepaninec when the keeper in trying to save a corner out by the touchline was robbed by Jones and his first time shot looked as though it went in off the post, but it actually hit Bladen before it crossed the line to give him his hatrick and make it 6-0.

With 10 minutes to go Tividale wrapped up the scoring, this time a ball over the top and Bladen was away through on goal, but with his hat trick in the bag courtesy of Jones he rolled the ball to his strike partner and Jones tapped the ball home.

In the end 7-0 is a good win at any level, but when you consider that Tividale must have had twice as many chances in the first half as they did in the second and never converted one. The goal difference could have been a lot better.
