Tividale FC 2-0 Brigg Town FC

A comfortable 3 points for Tividale

brigg report 1

It was a case of groundhog day as Tividale defeated bottom side Brigg Town 2-0 for the second week end running.

The game was played in glorious sunshine and Tividale buoyed after their dominant performance from a week ago in Brigg were at the visitors from the kick off and were ahead in the second minute. A Leigh Downing corner was only half cleared by the Brigg defence and Richard Huckfield hooked it back into the box for central defensive partner Mark Smith to head past Brigg keeper Robert Zand.

On 7 minutes it was two nil. This time Jordan Archer’s cross after good work down the left flank was met on the half volley by Sam Williams on the penalty spot and his shot flew into the roof of the net.

Second Tividale goal scored by Sam Williams

Tividale now threatened to run riot and on 26 minutes Jamie King let fly with a shot that just cleared Zand’s cross bar. 3 minutes later it was Danny Ashton’s turn to fire over. Chris Field then forced Zand into a fine save as he parried his shot straight to Ashton who could only fire over the rebound.

Brigg had their first effort on goal in the 38th minute when Anthony Bowsley’s free kick on the edge of the box could not beat the Tividale wall.

Tividale had one final chance in the half when a Downing shot was blocked on the line.

Half Time:- Tividale FC 2-0 Brigg Town FC

Tividale made a change at half time with Dave Bellis replaced goal scorer Sam Williams and the game settled straight back into training ground attack versus defence mode. On 47 minutes Huckfield found King with a cross field ball but his shot was well saved by Zand.

Apart from the odd Tividale attack that came to nothing the half literally just faded away as Tividale could not put together enough pieces of quality or get up a head of steam to really put the visitors to the sword. On the other hand after conceding two in the first 7 minutes and fearing what could have been a cricket score Brigg were settling into the game and had an effort with 15 minutes left when a Craig Palmer shot was comfortably saved by Charlie Price.

On 76 minutes Tividale had another chance to extend the lead when King turned Brigg defender and captain William Peers but his shot was blocked at the near post by Zand and out for a corner. From the resulting corner Brigg could only clear to the edge of their box to Downing who fired wide. Brigg’s Palmer had another chance on 82 minutes when he headed over a Jamie Forrester cross.
