Tividale FC 2- 0 Lincoln United FC
Tividale make Lincoln pay the penalties
After beating play off contender Lincoln United at there home in the first game of this season. Tividale completed the league double with another victory on a very heavy pitch at The Beeches.
Tividale started the stronger and after 2 minutes Jordan Archer raced into the Lincoln area after collecting the ball out on the Tividale left. He sped past two defenders trailing and was eventually upended by United’s Matthew Cotton. Zac Foster stepped up to place the ball to the right of and beyond keeper Robert Peet to put Tividale 1-0 up.
First Tividale Goal scored by Zac Foster
Lincoln reacted immediately to going behind and though they had a great deal of possession they never really threatened the Tividale goal. On 20 minutes Tividale’s Ryan Winwood blocked a powerful effort by Cotton after forward Andrew Hutchinson had kept the ball alive at the back post. Then, one minute later, striker Scott Ruthuen hit an effort against the outside of the post after bringing down a lofted ball into the box.
Possibly against the run of play Tividale doubled their lead on 38 minutes. Chris Field played a superb through ball to Archer
who again out paced his markers and managed to get his toe to the ball ahead of the outrushing Peet. Once again the referee had no hesitation pointing to the spot, and again Foster stepped up, this time sending the ball to the left of Peet and into the back of the net.
Second Tividale Goal scored by Zac Foster
Half Time :-Tividale FC 2- 0 Lincoln United FC
The second half was an even affair but Tividale always seemed to have enough to keep their lead intact. Lincoln did bring a save out of Price on 47 minutes when Hutchinson turned well but shot straight at the keeper from just outside the box.
At the other end Ryan Winwood hit the top of the bar direct from a corner in the 72nd minute, which came about after more good work from Archer. The forward then failed to divert a Andy Parson’s cross on target just a minute later. Perhaps Lincoln’s best chance of the game fell to Ruthuen in the 88th minute. He met a deep cross from substitute Elliott Broughton but Price produced a terrific save to deny the visitors a consolation goal.
