Tividale start the New Year in style

Tividale got the new year off to a great start with three points against Chasetown. They followed up their Boxing Day’s win over league leaders Sutton Coldfield with a hard fought home win.

Tividale started the game much better and their early domination told when Danny Ashton fired them ahead after 16 minutes.

Leigh Downing was brought down by Chasetown defender Jermaine Johnson. Ashton was the first to react and give Chasetown keeper John Bateman no chance when Downing hit the upright with the curling free-kick from just outside the box.

The visitors were limited to very few chances in the first half and it was not until the 22nd minute when they called home keeper Charlie Price into action as he comfortably collected a speculative long-range effort from Dan Griffiths. Tividale then created the next decent chance on 32 minutes Deqwon Ebanks held off his challenger laid the ball into the path of David Bellis but his shot whistled past the upright.

Half Time Tividale FC 1-0 Chasetown FC

Chasetown were a vast improvement at the start of the second half and on 54 minutes forward Nathan Waite fired in an effort that Price could only parry it away and his defenders cleared after the ball bounced around the Tividale area. Tividale then extended their lead on 62 minutes with a well deserved second when Downing, Ebanks and Nigel Penney led a lightening counter attack that swept forward and somehow Chris Field ran from his position at right back to pop up on the left wing and finish the move off firing past Bateman
fieldy.
The home side then saw out the game very comfortably and they should have extended their lead on 73 minutes with a well deserved goal for Ebanks but he rolled the ball wide with just Bateman to beat.
