Tividale FC 4-1 Romulus FC
Tividale rout these Roman invaders.
Once again the volunteers were out to help ensure this game was played and it was well worth it as Tividale avenged their league defeat at Coles Lane. It was a scrappy start to the game with the heavy pitch meaning there was never going to be any free flowing football.
Both teams were just getting use to the conditions when on 12 minutes a through ball set Jordan Archer free and he cut the ball back onto his right foot and lofted the ball past Romulus keeper Stuart Parsons’
Although Tividale were now exerting pressure on Romulus they never troubled Parsons while Romulus were looking to catch Tividale on the break. On 27 minutes Romulus were level when a great run by Luke Bottomer deep into the Tividale area and although he was half stopped by the Tividale defence unfortunately for them the ball ran loose to Luke Keen and he was just able to stab the ball past Tividale keeper Charlie Price as he raced out to block the shot,
The only other effort of note in the half was a long range effort from Romulus midfielder Cameron Lee that went past Price’s left hand post in the 30th minute.

In a what was a bit of symmetry Tividale were back in front 12 minutes into the second half when a Leigh Downing through ball completely wrong footed Romulus centre half Gregory Downes and Archer was able to steal in, nip the ball past Parsons and roll the ball into an open goal. Tividale were now well on top and David Bellis had a great effort to extend the lead but his shot fizzed wide on 69 minutes.
Tividale made a double substitution on 71 minutes bringing on Karl Edwards for Archer and debutant Jamie King for Leigh Downing and a minute later they teamed up for Tividale’s third. Edwards turned his marker 8 yards out but his shot was blocked. The ball fell to King on the left flank and his cross was controlled by Edwards 6 yards out and he picked his spot and fired home.
Tividale were reduced to 10 men when full back Danny Ashton was dismissed for two yellow cards in the 89th minute but even with the man disadvantage the home side were not finished and they added a fourth in injury time when King once again caused havoc down the left outpacing Romulus full back Todd Edwards and his cross just went behind Edwards but it fell nicely to Tividale’s third sub Nigel Penney and he made no mistake stroking home past the helpless Parsons.
