Goole AFC 1 – 0 Tividale FC
Tividale defeated after a Goole-ish performance
After a 260 mile round trip to Goole. Tividale will be genuinely disappointed not by this defeat but the manner of it especially after an impressive recent record built on high energy performances.
Goole started on the front foot and immediately won a corner that Tividale keeper Charlie Price had to push over his bar. The follow up corner was again an in swinger but this time it went harmlessly over. in these opening minutes Goole were looking dangerous on the break especially with the lively Tyler Williams on the flank.
Tividale’s first attempt fell to David Bellis on 16 minutes when Danny Ashton did well to keep the ball alive wide on the left touchline and his cross fell to Bellis but he fired straight into the arms of Goole keeper Peter Fotko. Then Jordan Archer tried his luck but again Fotko was equal to it.
The rest of the half was a very turgid affair with both teams constantly giving the ball away and decent possession non-existent, non of this was helped by the constant stopping and starting of play by the officials
Half Time:- Goole AFC 0- 0 Tividale FC
Tividale switched to what looked like a 4-4-2 formation for the second half and were almost in front on 51 minutes when Nigel Penney ran at the Goole defence and his shot beat Fotko but came off the base of the post and straight back into the thankful keepers arms. 7 minutes later and Tividale had the ball in the Goole net. A Zach Foster free kick was met by Richard Huckfield but although his header was parried by Fotko it went straight into the path of Ashton who blasted home but the assistant had flagged Huckfield offside on the initial header.
Unfortunately the rest of the half was exactly the same as the end of the first with both defences comfortable as neither side could conjure up a period of play that would could give the 125 folks in attendance something to cheer about
The game seemed to be meandering to a tame draw when on 88 minutes the normally solid and consistent Tividale full back Chris Field seemed to get on the wrong side of Williams as he raced into the box and in an attempted tackle brought the wide man down and from Goole’s first shot at goal left back Liam Schofield sent Price the wrong way.
Tividale threw the proverbial kitchen sink at the home side in the closing minutes but as with the previous 88 the Goole defence dealt with it.
