Tividale FC 0 – 1 Market Drayton Town FC
Tividale fail to turn up for their party
On a day that was planned to be a thank you for the brilliant support Tividale FC have received from individuals and companies in their quest for that well documented ground grading. Unfortunately for possibly the first time this season the lads just never were able to raise their game to match the occasion.
Tividale started the game impressively with all the early possession but it was Drayton who had the first chance on goal when skipper James Askey let fly from about 40yards but cleared the bar. Tividale’s first sight of goal was on 15 minutes when Karl Edwards also shot over the bar. Then 2 minutes later Jordan Archer fired over after neat work inside the box.
On 19 minutes Tividale had their best chance of the half when Danny Ashton raced down the right wing pulled the ball back from the by-line to David Bellis who played it into Edwards but from 2 yards out he hit the cross bar.
On 28 minutes it was Drayton who took the lead in bizarre circumstances when a long ball up field was not dealt with by the usually reliable Tividale keeper Charlie Price he misjudged the bounce, allowed Drayton striker Scott Ryan to nip in, round him and walk the ball into the net.
Tividale were immediately back on the attack, Mitchell Botfield lobbing the keeper on 36 minutes but defender Paul McMullen did well to get back on the goal line and clear. 6 minutes later David Bellis brought out a fine save from Drayton keeper Danny Read
Half Time:- Tividale FC 0 – 1 Market Drayton Town FC
Tividale had the first decent chance of the second half when Archer again cleared Read’s bar. Tividale continued to press through out the half but Drayton’s defence stood firm. Botfield had an effort go wide on 72 minutes and Ashton had an effort saved by Read 5 minutes later. Drayton were now in complete defence mode as Tividale had a penalty appeal turned down.
Tividale continued their assault on the Drayton goal and substitute Leigh Downing was denied in the 90th minute by Read but in the end Drayton held out for the three points and ended Tividale’s unbeaten league run on 13 games.
It could be said that with the chances created it was unlucky for the home side. But you felt from early in the game it was going to be a long afternoon as they failed to show any real quality in front of goal.
