Tividale FC 1 – 1 Spalding United FC
The Tulip’s fail to bloom on The Beeches
Tividale extended their impressive unbeaten run to a dozen games when they dented the hopes of another play off contender with a point that arguably should have been three.
After a cagey start where the only goal threats were a couple of long rang efforts first by Tividale’s Leigh Downing on 8 minutes that went well wide and seconds later one from Sam Williams with the same result. Spalding had their first effort and the first on target on 13 minutes when a Jamie Thurlbourne effort from 25 yards was comfortably saved by Tividale keeper Charlie Price.
Tividale slowly began to take the upper hand with the majority of the possession and their best chance of the spell was on 22 minutes when a Zac Foster free kick was turned around the post by Spalding keeper Alex Pycock. Just as the home side were threatening to open the scoring Spalding struck on 36 minutes. From a Adam Jackson long throw the ball was headed on by Nathan Stainsfield at the near post it was only partly cleared as far as striker Matt Nolan and he made no mistake nodding past Price from 3 yards out. Spalding now had their tales up and could have been two nil up when on 44 minutes Tom Waumsley blazed over with the goal at his mercy.
Half Time:- Tividale FC 0 – 1 Spalding United FC
The second half started the same as the first with neither side possessing a serious goal threat. The first was another Thurlbourne free kick on 46 minutes that he put it high and wide and on 53 minutes Tividale’s Karl Edwards latched on to a long clearance and with Pycock off his line tried to lob him but it landed wide of his far post. On 63 minutes a Downing free kick was deflected wide. The game went into another lull with Tividale with the possession but unable to find the breakthrough. Then on 76 minutes it finally came a cross from substitute Danny Ashton was headed back at the back post by Nigel Penney and Edwards volleyed home from the edge of the 6 yard box.
Spalding were now on the ropes and with 2 minutes to go they somehow escaped from conceding when Archer beat Pycock to a long ball laid the ball back to Edwards who’s shot was somehow turned around the post by a scrambling Pycock
