Tividale FC 4-3 Rugby Town FC
Tividale win Rugby points at fourth try
At the fourth attempt Tividale got a vital three points and with that moved off the foot of the table In what was an absolute thriller.
It was Rugby who started the better as the home side had a nervous start to the game. Yet it was Tividale who took the lead when Demetri Brown ran onto a glorious ball down the line from Jason Chilton and hit a cross that sailed over Rugby keeper Scott Dutton and into the far corner of the net.
The goal actually calmed the Tividale defence down and on 26 minutes Brown again was the tormentor racing onto another through ball but this time as he looked to round Dutton he was brought down by the keeper and gave away a penalty. Ashley Jackson then slammed the spot kick past Dutton who was very fortunate to only receive a yellow for the foul.
Half Time: Tividale FC 2-0 Rugby Town FC
The second half was only three minutes old when Rugby was back in the game. A far post cross from David Kolodynski after Tividale only half cleared a corner was headed back across Tividale keeper Tom Turner and home by Tom Ryan. 6 minutes later on 54 minutes Rugby were level when Tom Liversedge fired home from 20 yards via a deflection that looped over Turner and gave him no chance.
Rugby were now in the ascendancy and with the momentum with them looked the likely winners of the game. But this Tividale squad will not roll over and on 70 minutes they were back in front. The management duo of Ross Thorpe and Phil Male decided the best form of defence is to attack and brought on Chris Sterling to partner Brown up front and a minute later he had put Tividale ahead again. The strike duo working well together and Sterling finishes from a right wing Brown cross.
On 81 minutes came a minute of pure madness. First Rugby skipper Steve Towers hit a speculative effort from 25 yards that wrong footed Turner to make it 3-3 and straight from the kick off Sterling pounced on a defensive mix up and calmly slid that ball past the onrushing Dutton and put Tividale back in front again 4-3.
With both team having chances to add to the score in the dying minutes the score could have been anything. But Tividale held on for an important win.
