Tividale FC 0-2 Lye Town FCFC
Tividale defeated by Lye’s Pearl
Tividale’s quest for their first win of the new league campaign goes on as they were beaten by their near neighbours Lye Town in this Bank Holiday derby. The visitors just had that bit more knowhow over the 90 minutes and the three points deservedly went to the Stourbridge Road outfit, although it was helped by an under par performance from the home side that was also not helped by having to make two changes just before kick off when Liam Smith and skipper Karl Gardner of the back four were both injured in the warm up and another one Andre Edwards had to be replaced just before half time. Lye started the brighter and their talisman striker Ben Billingham showed why he is more than a match for defences at two levels higher by causing the Tividale back line all sorts of problems. He went the closest to opening the scoring in the first half when on 15 minutes his shot beat Tividale keeper Luke Kriskinans but it was cleared off the line. For the remainder of the half it was Lye with the majority of the possession but Tividale’s disciplined midfield and defence were making things difficult for them and with Desean Martin and Luke Morris on the flanks there was always an outlet to launch counter attacks of their own. In the 42nd minute Billingham was through on goal and was about to shoot when Edwards made a brilliant last ditch tackle that he had to get just right. Unfortunately for him he overstretched and pulled his hamstring and had to be replaced. Right on the stroke of half time Tividale’s Liam Morris played in his strike partner Steve Weaver but Weaver could not keep his shot on target
Half Time: Tividale FC 0-0 Lye Town FC
The second half started as the first half did with the visitors pressing and on 47 minutes from a Lye fee kick Kriskinans did well to block a free kick. On 50 minutes came a rare Tividale chance when Liam Morris pounced on a loose ball but he shot over the bar. Lye broke the deadlock on 57 minutes when Jack Pearlman met a Bellingham corner and his header gave Kriskinans no chance. Four minutes later Lye had doubled their lead. Tividale gifted the visitors a silly free kick on the left side of their own penalty area. From the floated ball in and after a goalmouth scramble the ball dropped nicely for Pearlman and he fired into an empty net with the Tividale defence appealing in vain for a foul on Kriskinans in the build up. From then on the game was over as a contest as Lye were quite happy to hold onto possession and protect their two goal lead. While despite changes Tividale huffed but could not find a way through their well organised defence. In the end it was Pearlman who maybe deservedly on his performance had the chance to get his and Lye’s third but his effort was turned wide by the Tividale keeper.
