Tividale FC – Stafford Rangers FC
Tividale fail to make possession count
It was Tividale v Stafford part 5 at The Beeches and for the second Tuesday in a row it was Stafford who came away with the victory.
It was two well matched sides that started the game on a heavy pitch with the rain lashing down throughout the first half. As in the game against Rainworth on Saturday it was Tividale who had the majority of the first half possession but unlike Saturday this time they looked dangerous when they went forward but still had no cutting edge and you felt they would rue not cashing in on their possession against a good side. While Stafford defended well but still looked a bigger goal threat on the counter. Tividale’s best chances of the half fell to Karl Edwards whose header was blocked at the near post. While Stafford went close with a Nathan Smith header that went over the bar and a great run by Ryan Edmunds before he was blocked by Tividale’s Mark Smith on 32 minutes. Tividale ended the half with a spate of corner kicks one of which saw a loud penalty appeal turned down.
Half Time:- Tividale FC 0-0 Stafford Ranger FC
Tividale started the half with another couple of corners that again Stafford defended well . The home sides best chance of the game fell to Leigh Downing on 54 minutes when he found himself clean through one on one with Stafford keeper Adam Whitehouse but his shot was well saved by Whitehouse.
Stafford broke the deadlock on 70 minutes when a mix up between Tividale keeper Price and left back Zach Foster let in Simon Everall and although Price saved his initial shot the ball looped up to Stafford sub Alex Curtis who nodded home the rebound. The goal changed the game completely and from Tividale controlling the game and patiently trying to find a way through the Stafford defence it was now a case of committing men forward as they chased the game. This just fell into the game plan of Stafford who were now managing the game quite comfortably and could have even gone further in front when with his back to goal Dan Cope tried a spectacular volley that just cleared the bar.
