RYAN Winwood was satisfied with his display at Spalding United having returned to Ian Long’s starting line-up for the first time since early November in the 1-1 draw at Kidsgrove Athletic.
Winwood, 19, completed all 90 minutes at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field on Saturday and the former West Bromwich Albion academy player was pleased with his efforts in the excellent 2-0 victory for Tivi.
He said “I’ve been really frustrated.
“Being unavailable due to non-footballing reasons is never ideal and it was just nice to be back playing in the team.
“The manager has always been very supportive of me and I’m happy that we managed to take all three points against a team on such a good run.”
Winwood left Tivi early in the summer to join Richard Sneekes at Rushall Olympic but returned to ‘Dale early in the season and feels he is getting back to full match fitness.
“When I returned back here, I probably wasn’t in peak condition and I accept that.
“I really enjoy it here and the lads have a great team ethic which runs through the heart of the football club in every department.”
And Winwood hopes he’s done enough to retain his place against Kidsgrove in the return fixture at The Beeches this coming Saturday (KO 15:00).
He added “All I want is to be playing football matches, that’s the environment I’ve always been involved with.
“I hope to play this Saturday but Leigh (Downing) and Mitchell (Botfield) are also vying a place so competition is tough.”
